Gemma Finds Her Place: A WE Work Success Story

The BANES WE Work team have made an inspiring video about Gemma’s journey on programme.
Gemma has had many jobs before, but due to her developmental language disorder and anxiety, it was hard for employers to fully support or understand what she needed at work. In 2025, Gemma lost her job and WE Work was recommended to her.
Since joining the programme, Gemma’s navigator helped her look for the right kind of job. Together, they arranged a meeting with managers at a local care home. The managers liked Gemma and could see all her strengths. She was then invited to an interview. Gemma was offered a part‑time job as a catering assistant.
Her navigator helped her settle into the role and explained to the team how best to support her.
Gemma has now been in the job for over 10 months. She has passed her probation and says she feels “happier, more confident and respected.”
Gemma says:
“The right job is out there and WE Work for Everyone can help you find it. If you’re struggling or feel like you’ve been treated bad because of your learning disability don’t be afraid to reach out.”
