Finding Confidence and a Future: Sam’s Work Placement
March 5, 2026
Sam’s journey with the WE Work for Everyone BANES team began in February last year, when he attended a local jobs fair. Once enrolled on programme, Sam was matched with navigator, Lea-Ann from one of WE Work’s specialist providers, Discovery.
With the right support, Sam began shaping a clearer picture of what he wanted—and what he was great at. They worked on strengthening his CV, drafting cover letters and job searching.
This eventually led to Sam securing a valuable work experience placement at Selwood Housing as part of the lettings team.
Sam currently helps with various admin tasks like sign ups and back of tenancy checklists. He gets to work within different teams like IT, customer services, caretakers and neighbourhoods. This opportunity has boosted his confidence and opened the door to future employment. Sam settled in so well, he was soon offered two days a week of placement. He shares:
The placement at Selwood has restored my self‑confidence and led me to believe I have the ability to contribute well within a workplace.
Selwood Housing describe Sam’s time with them:
“Over the past few months, he has become a valued part of the team, contributing with enthusiasm and a real willingness to learn. Sam has added so much to the lettings team while he has been with us… Sam has really thrived in the office environment and he is so personable, and a great colleague; we have really enjoyed having him with us. We really do wish him the best of luck.”
His navigator continues to provide support for Sam throughout his placement and offers her thanks to Selwood Housing for being so supportive, warm and friendly.

Sam goes on to say:
“The best part of working with Selwood Housing has been the people. They have been very kind and helpful to me. Helping me regain my confidence in the work environment and making me feel like I fit in well. They have also helped me better understand my strengths and skills at work, giving me a stronger perspective at what I’m good at.”
Sam’s advice to participants on programme:
Always be honest with your navigator; they’re there to help find what works and best supports you.
While Sam once imagined leading an IT department, he’s now giving himself space to discover what truly fits, saying, “We’ll see what the future holds for me.”
Whatever comes next, Sam’s journey shows the power of the right support, the right environment, and the right people believing in you.
