Ashton’s Journey with WE Work

January 16, 2025

Before joining WE Work for Everyone, Ashton spent much of 2024 taking part in courses at place such as The Restore Trust and The Prince’s Trust. He then decided to join WE Work and the BANES WWfE team arranged to meet him. “I decided to join because I knew I wouldn’t act on the progress I’d made without extra help” Ashton said.

After joining, Ashton worked closely with the BANES WWfE team.

“They immediately helped me narrow down what I wanted to do, which was a relief because I struggle with making decisions…I followed what they said to do and always asked for help when I got stuck.”

With support from the team, Ashton secured interviews at two apprenticeship places and was offered positions at both. “Because of this, I’m now working in the sector I wanted to and am progressing well” Ashton said. He has started his level 3 apprenticeship at Little Scribblers Day Nursery.

The biggest challenge was overcoming self-doubt. “The only barrier was my brain. I often find or create issues for myself…so [I] ignore my brain”

Looking ahead, Ashton plans to complete their two-year course and is already planning ahead to 2026.

What advice does Ashton have for anyone thinking about learning on the job?  “Try 100% and cooperate—it’s a two-way street.”

“WE Work for Everyone helped me grab the bull by the horns.”
