Lucy’s success story – finding new confidence and a career in coaching
January 22, 2025
Lucy was referred to WE Work for Everyone through Skills Connect with the help of her mum, Sarah. She faced challenges, including awaiting an ASD diagnosis, while managing Dyslexia and a Learning Disability. During her journey, Lucy received her diagnosis and the right benefits support to help her move forward.
Lucy’s dream was to become a swimming coach and she worked hard to make it happen. She joined an intensive training course with Circadian, travelling every day from Bristol to Thornbury by bus, leaving at 6:30AM and getting home after 8PM. Lucy often did her homework on the bus and stayed up late to keep on top of her college work.
With extra help from her mentors,, Lucy kept going even when it was tough. She retook her physical exam and passed, earning her swimming coach qualification and landing her dream job. Her hard work was recognised when she won CLaSS Most Resilient Person of the Year 2024 and was runner-up for Most Significant Achievement 2024.
Of the support she had from WE Work, Lucy says –
“The project has made me have a job I always wanted to get, adapt to my feelings, and never give up. Michelle has given me so much confidence. Becoming a swimming coach and teacher has changed my mental health for the better, and I can finally focus on my passion.”
She was particularity grateful to her Career Navigator –
“Brilliant project, I can’t thank them enough. They feel everyone deserves a chance and don’t give up on people. They pushed me and kept telling me I could do it when I felt I might give up on my own.”
Lucy’s story shows how determination and support can lead to incredible achievements.
