Project Pilot – Supported Internship in Bristol

Project Pilot is a Supported Internship Programme in Bristol, now beginning its second year. Run by Sixteen Co-operative Ltd and Bristol City Council, the programme helps young people with learning disabilities or autism who do not have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) move into paid work.

Who Can Apply?

The programme is open to 18- to 24-year-olds who –

  • Want to work and have some understanding of what a job involves
  • Have special educational needs or complex support requirements
  • Are not in education, employment or training (NEET) or at risk of becoming NEET
  • Live in Bristol and can travel independently or learn new routes
  • Are happy to take part in group learning one day a week
  • Do not have an EHCP
  • Have not completed an internship or traineeship before
  • Have permission to work in the UK
  • Have parents or carers who support their goal of getting a job

The second year of the project will start from April 2025.

What Does the Programme Offer?

Over 15 months, participants will receive –

  • Education and workplace learning, with a mix of classroom sessions and practical work experience
  • Up to three supported work placements, giving real experience in different roles
  • Help with job applications, including support to find and apply for paid work
  • Ongoing workplace support, with guidance for both the employee and employer
