Cultivating Confidence- H’s journey to finding her ‘ideal organisation’ in horticulture

February 13, 2026

H discovered We Work for Everyone whilst researching autism-friendly career paths into horticulture/parks and green spaces.

“I couldn’t believe that such an amazing resource existed and it was so easy to get involved with” says H. Very quickly, she had her first face-to-face appointment with her employment navigator, Kate.

“My incredible, generous, supportive Navigator was one of the first people I’d ever met in a professional/careers setting to whom I didn’t have to explain myself. She met me where I was at and never pressured me to be ready for things that I wasn’t. She was flexible and accommodating, proactively seeking to adapt to my needs when she could see I was struggling with things.”

“I’d lost all confidence in my skills and experience, didn’t know how to get back into work or what I could do that wouldn’t lead back to burn out.”

H and her navigator researched organisations that matched H’s values and beliefs, exploring what would be a realistic working environment for H. They also worked on interview preparation and how to bring up reasonable adjustments with an employer.

The support provided by WWfE has been invaluable in building my confidence and enabling me to re-enter the world of work. When I first met my Navigator, I was terrified of working again as had had such a bad experience in my last role. Gradually, thanks in a large part to the coaching provided by my WWfE navigator, I started to remember things I could do and to understand how I could work differently in the future to stop me from getting ill again.”

I now have a job in a plant nursery which much more closely aligns with the way my brain works and with my special interest in plants! It really closely matches the ‘ideal organisation’ identified through my work with my Navigator, which is so reassuring to me. When I do find things hard, I now have coping mechanisms and reasonable adjustments in place to enable me to be my best self at work. So far I’m loving it and I’m so happy to be working again!”

H continues, “I genuinely don’t think I’d have got here without WWfE — I think I would have gone back into the same type of job I’d done before and been stuck in the burnout cycle for a lot longer, which could have meant another two years of being really poorly. I would absolutely recommend this programme to anyone who is feeling stuck and struggling to identify a way forward. My life is so much better because of it and I feel very lucky to have had this experience.

Thank you.” – H
